Funding Opportunity


The Kentucky Network has offered small grants to individual institutions over the past several years. These grants had the institutions utilizing coalitions, environmental strategies and research based methods to reduce high-risk alcohol use for underage populations. Money may be spent for some alternative activities and individual education projects as a part of the overall plan, based on evidence based practices.

Please know that upon announcement of the grants offering there will be approximately 1-2 months to send in the application. The application will include need, design, goals and objectives, timelines, evaluation, and budget sections.

Past Grantee Information (2007-2008)

Brescia University will continue to build membership in campus coalition, S.A.F.E. (Substance Abuse Free Environment); support and develop student leaders/officers of SAFE; hold monthly meetings during academic year; cooperate and collaborate with other local coalitions: community, neighborhood, and high school. Comprehensive risk-reduction education for all student athletes using Prevention Research Institute's "Prime for Life!" offered as a 1-hour credit class, in cooperation with River Valley Behavioral Health’s Regional Prevention Center. Introduce incoming freshman to potential hazards of high risk drinking and increase their awareness of underage drinking laws and campus policy during freshman orientation.

Centre College is working to reduce high-risk drinking during the 2007-2008 academic year by the following: Matriculating freshmen will complete anonline alcohol education course prior to beginning first semester of course-work at Centre. Conducting an alcohol policy review utilizing student focus groups, the Alcohol Coalition, and benchmarking with other comparable colleges. Complete work on the alumni project: a survey of 1433 recent alums asked if they could go back would they change their drinking while at Centre? Of 321 returned 122 gave positive responses and 50 are willing to speak at campus events.Educate freshmen with hall programs by SMART (Students Monitoring Alcohol Responsibly Together). Expand use of e-Chug and BASICSExpand the social-norming campaign.

Eastern Kentucky University will conduct Core Alcohol & other Drug Survey and increase participation in campus coalition.

Morehead State University’s efforts for this grant in will be to continue to work to expand their Alcohol and Other Drug Task Force and the Student Organization of Drug Awareness. They will develop and maintain websites for both groups. A review of the campus policies will be made. If necessary, recommendations will be made for change of the policies. The policies will be published and distributed. Social-norming efforts will be put into place for the general populations. Additionally there will be a student designed and implemented program. The Task Force will provide support for the Choices Program being provided in the freshman orientation course, MSU 101. The Core Alcohol and Other Drug Survey will be administered to a sampling of the general population and to the Greek system.

Saint Catherine’s College will implement e-Chug online alcohol education and conduct Core Alcohol & other Drug Survey in Spring 2008

Transylvania University will begin use of Personal Response Systems in freshmen alcohol education classes and conduct Core Alcohol & other Drug Survey in Spring 2008

University of Louisville will conduct Core Alcohol & other Drug Survey of students in Fall 2007 and will work towards building a campus-community task-force to address campus policies and enforcement of underage drinking laws.
