How to join the Kentucky Network for Collegiate Substance Abuse Prevention
Institutional (Post-Secondary) Membership: (1) If your institution is already a national Network member (www.thenetwork.ws/members.html), you only need to write a letter to the Kentucky Project Director indicating your institution’s desire to be a part of the Kentucky Network .
(2) If you are not a national Network Member, you will need to have signature by an authorized institutional officer on an application letter indicating that your institution wishes to join The Kentucky Network. The letter needs to indicate that the official has reviewed the National Network Standards (www.thenetwork.ws/standards.html) and that there is commit to implement these on your campus. (It is understood that compliance with The Network Standards does not itself constitute compliance with Public Law 101- 226, the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of1989.)
Associate Membership: Organization : Letter on agency/organization letterhead stating reason for your organization’s interest in joining the Kentucky Network. List the college(s)/university(ies) with which you work; or if you work on the State level, please describe your organization’s work relationship to Kentucky Higher Education. On a separate page, list the people within your organization who wish to participate in the Kentucky Network so that we can keep our mailing list updated. Individual: Letter stating reason for your interest in joining the Kentucky Network. List the college(s)/university(ies) with which you work; or if you work on the State level, please describe your relationship to Kentucky Higher Education.
Note: For Organizations or Individuals applying for Associate Membership, your letter needs to indicate that the National Network Standards: www.thenetwork.ws/standards.html have been reviewed and you are committed to assisting Kentucky colleges and universities to strive toward implementing these standards on their respective campuses.

Definitions: Membership is limited to: Institutional Members: Kentucky individuals and organizations that are directly affiliated with an institution of higher education in the Commonwealth of Kentucky Associate Members: Kentucky individuals and organizations that directly support the alcohol & drug abuse and violence prevention activities of an institution of higher education. An institution of higher education is defined as a public or private school providing post-secondary education that is accredited by a regionally/nationally recognized agency. Members are expected to support and affirm national Network & Kentucky Network standards. Members are expected, at a minimum, to actively serve on at least one standing committee. The national Network Standards, first developed in 1987, define the criteria for institutional membership. Network members are expected to embrace the principles and procedures outlined within the four areas of policy, education, enforcement, and assessment: www.thenetwork.ws/standards.html
